I think I killed the Penstemon…

I know that this is something I’m going to be saying a lot… see the problem is when I’m trying to fit homesteading around working, I tend to not get around to things that need to be done. For instance- Penstemon…. this is supposed to be a beautiful bushy perennial with gorgeous flowers, but when I got them in small 4 inch pots, I didn’t have anywhere to put them, so they sat around until they looked like sad little dead twigs. The solution when I discovered this, was to move the sad sticks to 1 gallon pots and hope for the best. And truth be told, they lived- and then I forgot about them until this Spring.

Pretty sure I killed the Penstemon again!

I’m really grateful that plants can be so forgiving… I’ll see if they can be revived twice. They again were dry, root- bound sticks, so I rummaged up some larger pots- and we are going for round two!

Oops, the roots were growing out the bottom of the pot and broke off….

Turns out that I manage to kill a lot of things, so I found what I hope are some other dead plants and used the bigger pot. Since the homestead is being carved out of solid clay and a blank canvas, I really don’t have a place to put a lot of these plants that I keep bringing home, so I have an abundance of pots to use once things die off…

Here is hoping they live to bloom another day!

A total of 7 plants were rescued and re-potted and fingers crossed I’ll get a place to put them this year! If I remember I have them…
